I stared at this for a moment, and saw a pointed face, eyes, nose, arms outstretched.....

Tree and Barn
Drawn with 8B pencil and smudge stick on cheap sketch paper, from my imagination. This was one of my first attempts at rendering trees "shadow first" (see below), and as such is not too hot. Overall, the little sketch is satisfying (at least to me), but the tree is too round and is lacking texture (which is somewhat due to the very dull, soft pencil), and the composition is surely not great.
Also in evidence is the problem with using cheap sketch paper -- my ink drawing on the other side of the page is showing through. Ugh.
I've been reading a really good book on drawing trees and such: On Drawing Trees and Nature: A Classic Victorian Manual, by J.D. Harding. While the prose is dense as concrete to modern readers, it offers no-nonsense rendering advice that I felt I could put to use immediately.
I stayed up late last night scribbling out trees in pencil and pen, just making up stuff. I think this book and some practice will give me the skills I need to do better rendering of plants and trees from life.

I coudn't decide which version of this i preferred but I've gone with the wide (Landscape) view as my lead shot.
Loch Ken is situated just north of the popular market town of Castle Douglas in the new 'walking destination' area of The Glenkens on the A713 Castle Douglas - Ayr road.
For many years Loch Ken has been a popular destination providing an abundance of attractions from the recently launched and extremely exciting project the Galloway Kite Trail, a RSPB project to release these exciting birds back into Scotland, to water sports including sailing, waterskiing to name but a few with two marinas offering excellent facilities.
This 11 mile stretch of water provides an experience for all, bird watching, walks, picnic areas or just a pleasant drive around the Loch which is a long narrow ribbon of water 12km in length and as much as 1km wide. It is part of the Galloway Hydro Electric Scheme which was completed in 1936. Part of it is an Environmentally Sensitive Area (E.S.A). Home to some of Scotland's most fascinating scenery and wildlife, the Loch makes for an ideal playground for any outdoor enthusiast. From Red Kites to Red Squirrels, Sailing to Windsurfing, Forest Walks to Fishing, there is an abundance of activity to appeal to all the family.
I was going to my customers on I88 in Illinois, and I saw these trees next to this run down barn, I ended it passing it up and had to take them on the return trip from the opposite side of the road. It was hard to snap the picture between passing cars and trucks.
Had to walk halfway out in a field by Booneville to get this tree. One of those shots that I've driven past for a year but never got. Today as the weather turned, it looked right.

The Masked Tree Frog (Smilisca phaeota) can be easily be distinguished, since it is the only large tree frog in Costa Rica that has both a silvery white stripe on the upper lip and a dark, masklike stripe from the nostril to the insertion of the arms
